DESIGN FOR A COVERED DISH.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Design No. 33,281, dated October 2, 1900. Application tiled September 8,1900. Serial No. 29,460. Term of patent 3i years.
To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that LWILLIAM H. GRINDLEY, a subject ot" the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Congleton, county of Chester, England, have invented a new and original Design for a Covered Dish; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to l e accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspectifc view of the covered dish embodying my design, and Fig. 2 is n. top view of the same.
'lhe body of the dish is oblong or oval. Its upper rim forms a continuous smooth curve. It is provided at each extremity with a hand!e, and it narrows rapidly toward its base, where it is expanded into a foot, which is scalloped along its rim.
Immediately beneath the upper rim of the body of the dish is arranged a series of embossed ornamentations, consisting oi a curve d, termin-.ning in an inwardly-curved bead or circle b at each end and alternating with a trifoiate figure c, pointing inward. Near the foot is a row of short embossed lines d. etween these two rows of ornamentations is a row of embossed ornamentations, consisting of a trifoliate figure e and a quadrifoliate i figure f. Alternately arranged between each pair ot' these figures e and fis a conventionalized stalk g, provided with flowers h, the top of the same in each case beingr toward the figure j' and away from the figure e.
The cover of the dish is similar in outline 35 to the upper rim of the body of the dish, into which it fits and which it overlaps. It is raised toward the center, where it is provided with a handle. Its outer rim forms a continuous smooth curve. Immediately within 4o the rim is arranged a series of embossed or namentations, consisting of n curve a', 1erminating in an inwardly-curved bead or circle b' at each end and alternating with a trifoliate figure c', pointing` inward. Toward 45 the raised middle portion is a row of short embossed lines d'. Between these two rows of ornament-ations is ai row of embossed ornamentations, consisting of a trifoliate figure e' and a quadrifoliate figure f'. Alternately so arranged between each pair of these figures e' and f' is a conventionalzed stalk g'i, provided with flowers h', the top of the saine in each case beingr toward the figu re f and away from the figure e'. 55
The design for a covered dish substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signatn re, in the presence of two Wit- 6o nesses, this 21st day of August, 1900.
WILLIAM ll. GRINDLEY.
