DESIGN FOR A COVERED DISH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,710, dated October 24, 1899.

To all whom it nmty concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. GRINDLEY, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Congleton, county of Chester, England,
5 have invented a new and original Design for a Covered Dish; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
In the drawings, Figure I is a top View of the covered dish embodying my design. Fig. 2 is a side View, and Fig. 3 an end view, of the same.
The body of the dish is oblong or oval. Its
upper rim is scalloped, a flat scallop alternating with rounder scallops. The dish is provided at each extremity with a handle and narrows sharply downward toward the base, which extends outward and is irregularly 2o scalloped along its lower rim.
Immediately beneath the upper rim of the dish and parallel therewith is a continuous band of embossed beads a. Beneath this band is a row of embossed ornamentations alternately arranged, one being a star-1i ice figure 1) and the other a branch or twig like ligure 0. Near the base is embossed a horizontal row of scallops d, i nelosi ngdown wardlyprojecting lines 6.
The cover of the dish is similar in outline to the upper rim of the body of the dish, into which it llis and which it overlaps. The rim of the cover is ornamented with a continuous band parallel therewith of embossed beads (I, and within this band is a row of embossed oruzuncntations alternately arranged, one being a star-like form I) and the other a branch or twig like form 0. In the middle of the cover are two raised portionsfand g, with a depression between them, the handle being placed at the top. At the base of the raised portion is an oblong hand of embossed scallops (Z, incloslng inwardly-projecting lines 6.
lVhat I claim is The design for a covered dish substantially as shown and described.
