DESIGN FOR A COVERED DISH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 15,914, dated lviarch 3, 1885.
Application filed December 11, 1884. Term of patent years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, Isaac W. KNowLEs, JOHN N. TAYLOR, and HOMER S. KNowLEs, citizens of the United States, residing at East Liverpool, in the county of Oolumbiana and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Dinner and Tea Sets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
Our design relates to various articles of china or other table-ware, but particularly to dinner and tea sets.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a covered dish embodying our design, and Fig. 2 represents a top or plan View of the same.
A indicates the cover of the dish, which has a flat rim, O, which projects well over the beaded edge E of the body of said dish, so as to form a broad bead between the edge E and the breast of the cover A. The body of the dish and the cover are practically rectangular in horizontal section, and the breast of the cover rises abruptly to a slight height from the fiat ring well back of its edge, and from thence in the form of a frustum of a pyramid, terminating in a flat facet, D, on top, which is surmounted by a handle, F. The body of the dish has convex sides and ends, which widen or bulge from the base upward until near the top, where they retract, forming a reverse curve, from which springs the curve of the upper portion of the handles, the curve of the lower portion forming a continuation of the curve of the lower bulged portion of the body, producing a graceful and pleasing eft'ect. provided with a band or ring, 0, having round beads or bosses (2, while between the bands 0 and folds or flutes b are formed beads or bosses 6, similar to the bosses (l. The top 0t the cover and sides of the dish are provided with ornamental lcavcsf at the points where the handles are joined thereto.
e claim- 1. A design fora covered dish, consisting of a rectangular body having straight parallel sides and ends, with rounded corners bulged and curved as described, the cover having similar edges and corners conforming to the general shape of the dish, with a [lat and pro jecting rim extending well over the upper edge of the dish, and a pyramidal breast rising well back of the rim, as shown and described.
2. A design for the handles of table-ware or other sets, having the central portions provided with a head or ring having round beads or bosses, while between the bead and folds or plates are similar bosses, substantially as shown and described.
