DESIGN FOR A RADIATOR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,574, dated March 10. 1891.

Be it known that I, JOHN R. REEJ), a citizen of the United States, residing at estfield, in the county of llarnpden, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Radiators, of which the following is a specification, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.

Figure l is a side elevation of a radiator embodying my novel design; Fig. 2, an elevation of one of the pipes or loops thereof.

In the production of the design for radiators herein shown my aim has been to improve the general ornamental appearance of the radiator, which I have done by breaking up all continuous or regular rectangular lines or bands forming the ornamentation, and in place of such lines I have made use of orna lnentation more irregular or wavy, and consequent-[y more pleasing to the eye.

In the drawings each loop or pipe A B C, &c., is shown as composed of two or more legs communicating with a head a and with a base 6. The head part of each loop or pipe is ornamented at its ends to leave cars a a of unequal length, thus forming cusps, which, when the loops or pipes are reversely assembled in a radiator, as shown in the drawings, extend downwardly for unequal distances upon the legs, or terminate on the legsat unequal distances from the top of the head, the upper end of the radiator thus presenting to the eye a dcnticulated appearance, as in Fig. 1, where the foliated cusps terminate in different horizontal planes. The base e of each loop or leg of the radiator is also ornamented to present the appearance of pedestals c e of different lengths, which, when the pipes are reversely assembled in a radiator, as shown in the drawings, Fig. 1, extend upwardly along the side of the radiator for unequal lengths or terminate in different horizontal planes.

The essential leading feature of my design consists in the ornamentation of the heads of the loop-pipes, as well as their lower ends, so that when standing side by side the ornamentation of adjacent loop-pipes extends toward the center of the length of the looppipes for diflerent distances.
