DESIGN FOR A CARPET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Desi gn No. 12,441, dated August 30, 1881.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that 1. JOHN NEiL,of New York, county and State of New York, have invented a new andoriginal Design forC-arpets,of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and configuration of figures hereinafter more fully described.

The accompanying photograph illustrates a faceview of a carpet having my new design.

This carpet is divided into two longitudinal parallel portions, A and B. The portion 0c copying the larger part of thespace,has, where it touches the portion 13, a border, in, and at the opposite side a narrow border, a, and next to the same a broader border, c,\v1thin which are series of rosettes b. the borders 0 and m is a checkered field, having upon it the figure O and the figure g. The checkered field is indicated by the letters 2', and is composed of alternate longitudinal and transverse lines.

The figure G consists of a small circular rosette, d, hearing a larger rosette-like flower, e, with leaves growing out of the junction of d and e. From the flower 6 projects a spear shaped ornament, f, into the border in. gis a. flower-like figure having a spray, 11, project ing into the border m, said spray carrying leaves jwithin said border m. Some of the leaves The space betweenj that extend from the spray it reach even to the part B of the carpet. The border in has ornamental dots n and groundwork, as indicated.

The part B of the carpet consists of four stripes, o 'r t s, all of which are ornamented in the manner indicated, to wit: The stripe 0 has zigzag outline, and near the same ornamental rosettes and geometrical figures. The stripe r contains a string of clover-leaves. The border 1 is made up of small rosettes, and the stripe s is ornamented with alternate longitudinal and transverse lines to give it a checkered appearance.

I claim 1. The design for carpets consisting of the figures B, 0,1", t, and s, substantially as shown.

2. The design for carpets, consisting of the figures A, in, a, and c, substantially as shown.

3. The design for carpets, consisting of tho figures G, d, e, and f, substantially as shown.

4. The design lor carpets, consisting of the figures g. h, and j, substantially as shown.

5. The design for carpets, consisting of the figures A, B, G, a, c, b, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, m, n, 0,1),1', and s, substantially as shown.
