DRESS GOODS.
No. 20,185. Patented Oct. '7, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES ELMORE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR DRESS GOODS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,185, dated October '7, 1890. Application filed August 9,1890. Serial No 361,684- Term of patent 3% years To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES ELMORE, merchant, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, doing business in the city of New York, same State, have invented and produced a new and original Design for White Dress Goods, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.
The design applies to thin white dress goods of cotton or of any other suitable material. Such have been made with plain stripes of thicker or closer woven material, commonly known as Oarreau stripes, crossing each other after the fashion known as plaid, and also with twilled stripes having the embroidered appearance produced by raised portions of the surfaces. These stripes have also crossed each other after the manner of a plaid. My design combines the two classes of plaided figures.
The drawing is a face view the fabric showing my design.
The leading feature of my design consists in alternating plain or Carreau stripes with twilled stripes, all being arranged to cross each other after the manner known as plaid,
of a portion of on a plain ground with one set of the twilled stripes projecting more or lying higher than the other and both sets projecting higher than the ground surface.
Referring to the drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, A is the groundwork, B B are Oarreau stripes, and G G are twilled stripes crossing one set and overriding the other. These two kinds of stripes B and O are alternated, as shown, and extend in two directions, one set lengthwise of the goods, parallel to the selvage, and the other set extending across at right angles thereto, the latter set being apparently overridden by the first set. Both sets present fine diagonal markings.
My design gives a rich and attractive appearance, differing from that produced by plaids of Garreau stripes alone or by plaids of twilled stripes alone.
What I claim is-- The design for thin white dress goods herein shown and described.
CHAS. ELMORE.
