Description

DESIGN.
0. E LMORE.
DRESS GOODS- Patented Oct. 7, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES ELMORE, OF BROOKLYN NEV YORK.
DESIGN FOR DRESS GOODS.
dated October 7, 1890.
Application filed August 9, 1890. Serial Nor 561,583. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES ELMORE, inerchant, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, in the State of New York, doing business in the city of New York, same State, have invented and produced a new and original Design for \Vhite Dress Goods. of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.
The design applies to thin white dress goods of cotton or of any other suitable material. Such have been heretofore made with plain stripes of thicker or close woven material, commonly known as oarreau stripes, and also with twilled stripes having the embroidered appearance produced by raised portions of the surfaces. My design combines the two classes of stripes.
The drawing is a face View of a portion of the fabric showing my design.
The leading feature of my design consists in alternating plain or carreau stripes with twilled stripes, all being arranged on a plain ground.
Referring to the drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, A is the ground work, B B are carreau stripes, and (J C are twilled stripes. Both these kinds of stripes l3 and C extend longitudinally of the fabric, all lying parallel to the edge or selvage of the goods and the stripes 0 being higher than the general surface of the fabric. The twill in the stripes O is so worked as to give the effect of small lines lying diagonally across each stripe.
My design gives a peculiarly rich and attractive appearance, which is neither pro duced by carreau stripes alone nor by the twilled stripes alone.
What I claim is- The design for thin white dress goods herein shown and described.
CHAS. ELMORE.
