.7 I i jAlforney I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
TIIEODOEE FANTA, OF oI-IIOAGO, ILLINOIS.
WOVEN FABRIC.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 708,630, dated September 9, 1902. Application filed October 3, 1901. Serial ITO. 77,479. (No specimens.)
T0 @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Beit known that I, THEODORE FANTA, a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Woven Fabrics; and I do hereby declare the following to be aA full, clear, and exact description' of the in-A vention, such as will enable Others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. Y
My invention relates to an improvement in woven fabric, the object of the invention'being to provide an improvedA border, consisting of several layers or weft-planes of varying widths to expose portions of each and every plane.
With this object in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction weft-planes a, b, c, and d, secured one on topv of the other by the warp-threads l, 3, 5, and
7, respectively, and said weft-planes being of varying Widths, so as to expose the respective edges of each, and as the several weft-planes may be of different colors a neat and attractive border is the result. The weft-planea has the warp-threads 1 woven about the same.
Warp-thread 3 extends over weft-plane?) and securely ties the same to weft-plane a. y Warpthread 5 extends over weft-plane .c and ties the same to a and b, and Warp-thread 7 Y extends over weft-plane d and securely ties the.,l same to @,b, and c, thusforming a border in' which each Weft-plane will be securely Woven into the border by a separate andl independent warp. The border thus comprises several weftplanes secured centrally, one upon the other and of varying widths, hence exposing the respective edges of every underlying weftplane, Y which edges are preferably tufted owing to the turning of the weft-threads, and as the several'weft-planes can be of various colors Vto form any desired combination of `colors a neat and attractive border can be formed of as many weft-planes as desired.
invention.
Havingfully described my invention, what I claim as'new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A woven fabric consisting of several weftplanes located one on Vtopy of the other and warp-threadsseparately securing each of said .weft-planes tothe plane or planes below the same.
V2; A woven fabric consisting of several weftplanes, warp -threads separately securing each of said weft-planes to the plane or planes below the same, and the side edges of Ithe several lweft-planes projecting beyond the one Inext above.
Intestimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THEODORE FANTA.
