Description

DESIGN.
Patented Nov. 13, i877.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD T. WEBB, OF RANDALLSTOWN, IRELAND.
DESIGN FOR WOVEN BORDERS FOR TOWELS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,314, dated November 13, 1877 application filed August 8, 1877. [Term of Patent 3% years] To all twhom it may concern:
Be it known r that I, RICHARD THOMAS WEBB, of Randallstown, county Antrim, Ireland, have invented and produced a new and original Design or Pattern for Woven Borders for the Ends of ATowels or other articles, which design or pattern has not heretofore been known or used; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and clear description of the saine.
The accompanying drawing fully represents the nature of my design.
This design is adapted to be produced partially or entirely in colors, such as red or blue, or entirely White, or the same color as the body of the towel or other article on which it is placed.
The eonguration of the border is produced in the weaving by the threads of the warp and weft being laid together in different widths, and raised or depressed, as the case may require, the weft of a portion of the border being colored, if desired.
The principal features of the design consist in a central row of checkered diamond-shaped figures, A, with intervening points B, outside of which are two inclosingliues, C C, also formed in checks by the interweaving of the Warp and weft.
Next to the lines C C are lines D D, formed of the weft, between which lines and the checkered bordering-lines E E are plain spaces G G, all of which outer lines and gures are arranged with relation to the central figure and `each other in about the positions and of the proportionate size shown in the drawing.
The central figures A,B and C constitute the principal portion of my design, and in some cases may be used entirely alone, where a narrow border is desired.
The design is for the borders of towels or other articles1 and may be used with any pattern of towel.
I claim as my invention or production, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The design or pattern for Woven border, composed of the central diamond-shaped iigures A and points B, surrounded by the inclosing-lines C C, when used with or without the outer lines D D and E E and the intermediate space G, substantially as hereinbefore shown and described.
