ns-soa 5! DESIGN.
0, .J. 80 R. T. WEBB. Towels, 8:0.
No. 10,322. Patented Nov. 20, 1877.
T w e N UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES J. WEBB AND RICHARD T. WEBB, OF RANDALLSTOVVN, IRELAND.
DESIGN FOR TOWELS, 80c.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,322, dated November 20, 1877; application filed October 2, 1877. [Term of Patent 7 years.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES JAMES WEBB and Rrcnnnn THOMAS WEBB, both of Bandallstown, county of Antrim, Ireland, have invented and produced a new and original Design or Pattern for Towels and other Articles, which design or pattern has not been heretofore known or used; and we do hereby declare the following specification to be a full and clear description of the same.
The accompanying drawing represents the nature of our design.
The body or main portion of the towel may be of any color desired, but usually white, and has lines running diagonally across and intersecting each other, so as to form squares A, these diagonal lines being produced in the weaving by raised strands, which also give a checkered appearance.
In the center of each of the squares or die monds A is a miniature diamond, 0, also formed by raised strands.
At the ends the pattern is relieved by a border produced in the weaving by the threads of the warp and weft being laid together in different widths and raised or depressed, as the design may require, the weft of a portion of the border being colored, if desired.
The principal features of the border portion of the design consist of the four checkered figures or lines B B B B, separated from each other by the raised lines 1) b and intermediate plain spaces 0 c, the raised lines I) b being also placed on the outer edges of the border, all of which are about the size and arranged with relation to each other and the body-pattern, substantially in the manner shown.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The within-described design or pattern for towels or other articles, consisting of the diamond-shaped figures A a. in the body or main portion, and the combination of the lines B B B B with the lines and spaces 1) and 0, formin g the border, substantially as shown and described.
