DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,822, dated March 2], 1882, Application filed February 11, 1882. Term of patent 35 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HENRY HORAN, of East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and original 5 Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in a novel grouping and configuraro tion of figures hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of a carpet having my new design.
The ground A consists of irregular fields ornamented by varying small geometric figures,
as shown. Resting upon and traversing A are the flower-and-leaf groups B C D E.
Bis a large group, having as its center a, which consists of two large roses supported upon a mass of leaves. Above is a small group, b,
consisting of an overhanging rose and a spray bearing leaves and small flowers. To the right is a cluster, 0, of small star-shaped flowers and ajutting branch with leaves and similar small flowers. Below is (1, another branch, bearing leaves and small star-shaped flowers, and to the lefte-a cluster of similar leaves and small flowers. Long fern-like or open leaves spring from the group B on every side and traverse the adjacent fields.
C is a smaller group, with f as its center, which consists of three small roses supported by a cluster of leaves. Above g, below h, and
on each side 70 l are jutting branches that bear small leaves and buds and flowers.
D, shown in part on one side and in part on the other side of the photograph, is a group with mas its center,which consists of clustered roses and leaves with three large indented leaves projecting, two downwardly-one to the right and one to the leftand the third up to the right. Between the lower two projects the leatand-flower spray a. To the right of m is the sprig 0, bearing buds, leaves, and small flowers. Above misthe grouppa large flower on a stem with small leaves and flowers.
E, shown in part on each side of the photograph, has as its center the flower-and-leat' cluster q,with three fern-like leaves, projecting, two downwardly to the left and to the right, and the third upwardly and to the left. To the left is the flower sprig r, to the right the sprigs s and t, and below the sprig a.
