BROOM-HEAD.
SPECIFICATTON forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 624,310, dated May 2, 1899.
Application filed October 1 3, 1893. Serial No. 693,439. (No model.)
in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Broom Heads, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide a new and improved broom-head having a reversible handle and a scraper extended to opposite sides of the head; and to accomplish this object the present invention consists in the features of construction and in the com bination or arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a broom embodying this invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view along a: 50, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the scraper. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the scraper. Fig. 5 is an inverted plan view of the scraper.
In the drawings is shown a broom with brislies 1 and head 2. The head is shown transverse] y bored at three points for the reception of bolts 3. A plate 4:, sitting on head 2, has oppositely-located pendent flanges 5, adapted to sit against opposite sides of or embrace head 2 and to correspond to the bores of head 2.-
A scraper is shown with parts 19 extended across the top of the broom-head and having the portions or blades 6. This scraper is made to rest against the opposite flanges 5 of the broom-head plate, said scraper having oppositely-located flanges '7, made to rest against or correspond with the flanges 5 of the broomhead plate 4:. The flanges 5 and 7 being suitably perforated and the bolts 3 being passed through such perforations or flanges and through head 2, the plate and scraper can be firmly secured to the head.
The broom-head plate 4 is formed with upwardly-projecting bearing-lugs 8 and with a toothed segment 9 centrally between said lugs. The pivots 10 on the ends of the handle-bail 11 are mounted in the bearing-lugs 8, and the bail is provided with a bolt 13, which can engage a desired tooth 9 to hold the handle-bail in required position or to enable the handlebail to be reversed or oppositely inclined.
The handle or stick is shown at 17. The scraper is shown with edges bent or doubled at 20, whereby the scraper is given rigidity and durability. Should the broom formed with pendent flanges which embrace head plate and scraper substantially as described.
2. The combination with a broom-head having transverse bores, of a broom-head plate l1 avin g npwardly-proj ectin g bearing-1n gs and downwardly projecting side flanges which embrace the broom-head, an integral scraperplate resting on the top of the broom-head and having flanges resting against the side flanges of the broom-head plate, said scraperplate affordin g blades on each side of the head, tie-bolts passing through the scraper-flanges, broom-head and broom head plate flanges, and a handle-bail pivotally mounted on said bearing-lugs substantially as described.
3. The combination with a broom-head having transverse bores,of a broom-head plate fitted upon the upper side of the broom-head and formed with flanges made to embrace opposite sides of the broom-head, a scraper affording blades on each side of the Head and having integral end portions extended across the top of the broom-head and flanges made to rest against the opposite flanges of the broomhead plate, and bolts passing through the scraper, the broom-head and the flanges of In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
