Beitknown that I, EPHRAIM HAMBUJER, of Detroit, in the county of Vayne and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Brushes; and I do hereby de clarc that vthe following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference heilig had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in brushes.

The object of the invention is to provide means for securing a handle upon the brushhead, more specially ofthat class wherein the bristles are held in place bylongitudinal binding-wires, such as are described in the patent to one McDonel, March 13, 1888, No. 273,867.

The invention consists in the peculiar coinbinalions and the novel construction, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more Ifully hereinafter described, and then specilie ally defined by the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents the head of a shoe-brush, the ends of which are preferably semieircnlar in forni, as shown.

B is a plate substantially of the form shown, each end of which is provided with a downwardly-projecting iiange, C, between which anges the curved ends of the brush-head snugly iit. It will :readily be seen that by the employment of this flange-plate, if the brush is constructed after the McDonel patent hereinbefore referred to, the flanges C will effectually prevent the displacement of the bind ing-wires or the end staples that secu re them in place, while it presents a much more iinished appearance to the brush.

D is ahandle, which is secured to the top of the plate in any convenient manne-r, or it may be formed as an integral part of such plate B, this depending largely upon the material from which these parts are constructed.

The plate and handleare'secu red tothe brushhead by means of a screw, a. Upon the for ward end of the handle is a socket, E, into which the head F of the dauber77 is designed to closely Iit. The socket E may, if desired, be rigidly secured to thehandle, or it may be secured merely by the screw b, which passes through the center of the dauber head, as shown. By this construction it will readily be observed that, beyond affording means for preventing the withdrawalor displacement of the binding-wires in a brush of the kind described, additional strength is given to the brush, the handle being prevented from turning upon the head by the ianges, while at the saine time either the brush proper or the danber may readily be removed and replaced with new brushes at very slight expense.
