G. S. ELLIOTT.
COLLAR.
Patented Mar 24, 1896.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE STANISLAUS ELLIOTT, OF BAR HARBOR, MAINE.
COLLAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 557,062, dated March 24, 1896. Application filed July 30, 1394. Serial No. 519,009. (No model.) Patented in England February 26, 1895, No. 4,148.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE STANISLAUS ELLIOTT, of Bar Harbor, Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shirt-O01- lars, (patented to me in England February '26, 1895, No. 4,148,) of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates particularly to an attachment to a standing collar whereby a necktie may be retained in proper position, and it comprises a loop extended longitudinally of the collar underneath one of the end buttonholes.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a portion of a collar embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a view showing the loop. Figs. 3 and 4 are perspective views illustrating the manner of applying a tie to form a square bow or four-in-hand, respectively.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a standing collar having a buttonhole a at its end. Underneath the buttonhole is a loop A, consisting of a tape secured at its ends to the collar. This tape extends longitudinally of the collar, and it is secured to that end ofv the collar which overlaps or comes in front when the collar is buttoned on the neck of a wearer.
In use the tie is placed around the collar, then in forming the first knot the end of the tie is passed vertically through the loop, and then the knot may be completed.
It will be understood that the loop is a permanent attachment and that it will be entirely hidden by the tie.
Having described my invention, what I claim is- 1. The combination with a standing collar, of a loop secured thereto adjacent one of the end buttonholes and extended longitudinally of the collar, substantially as specified.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a standing collar having a necktie-retainer, consisting of a tape secured at its ends to the collar to form a loop, the said tape being extended longitudinally of the collar, underneath one of the end buttonholes, whereby a necktie end may be passed vertically through the loops, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE STANISLAUS ELLIOTT. \Vitnesses:
