COMBINED COLLAR AND NECKTIE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 357,071, dated February 1, 1887.
Application filed October 1 1, 1886. SeiiaLNo. 216,247. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOHN S. DOVE and JOHN S. DOVE, J r., both citizens of the'United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Collar and Necktie; which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, invwhich the figure is a perspective view of a combined collar and necktie embodying our invention, the object whereof is to combine a collar and necktie in such manner that a separate necktie is avoided.
Referring to the drawing, A represents a collar, formed of linen or other suitable material, having button-holes B and O, for attachment to the neckband of a shirt. At the front of the collar is a necktie, O, which is formed of tabs D, which are continuous of the extreme ends of the collar, or separate therefrom and secured thereto by sewing or otherwise, said pieces crossing each other, so that points project downward and laterally, after the manner of a necktie. When a white collar is employed and the tabs are made of the same material, said tabs may be printed or otherwise colored in imitation of necktie material, and necktie material or imitation thereof is employed when the tabs are made separate from the collar and secured thereto, the object in either case being the samethat is, when the collar is buttoned in position the tabs assume the position of a necktie and present the appearance of the latter, thus avoiding a separate necktie.
The material employed for the tie should be such that it may be laundered with the collar, and may be uncolored, if desired.
The front button-holes, C, of the collar are made in diagonal direction in relation to the length of the collar, so that when the collar is buttoned the button-holes assume a horizontal position on the neck and avoid an undesirable diagonal appearance thereon.
We are aware that it is old to form a combined collar and necktie having the necktie portion continuous of the neckband of a collar, and such we do not claim.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A combined collar and necktie formed of a continuous piece of material of substantially uniform width, having diagonal button-holes a short distance from its ends, substantially as described.
2. A combined collar and necktie formed of a collar and tabs continuous of the ends of the collar, and having the front button-holes diagonal relative to the length of the collar, substantially as described. I
