-CAROLINE K. LIGHTGAPP, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
uN'DER-GARM ENT FOR INFANTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,877, dated June 20, 1882.
' Application nien May 1, 1852. (No modem' To all/whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CAROLINE K. LIGHT- CAPP,a citizen of the United States, and a resivdent of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Under-Garment for Infants, of which the following isa specification.
The object of my inventionl is to make an un- .der-garment for infants whlch will protect the lower limbs more "ei'ectua'lly thantlie usual skirts, and yet will notinterfere with theready application or removal of the diaper, and will not become wet or soiled. This object I attain in the manner which I-will nowproceed to describe, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, the gure ot' which shows afront View of an under-garment'made in accordance with my invention.
In infants7 under-clothing the use of drawers has hitherto been attended with much inconvenience, owiugto the fact that they interfere l with the ready application or removal of the diaper and quickly become wet and soiled.
The delicate lower vlimbs of infants in "short l clothes require better protection than is afforded by the usual skirts, however; and the main object of my inventionvhas been to provide a garment which, while possessing` the advantages of a pair of drawers so faras protection is concerned, would not be open to the abovementioned objections, and could be easily removed or replaced without interfering with any of the other garments.
The improved garment consists ot' a pair of drawer-legs disconnected from each other at the top, and each contracted at the upper end and constructed for attachment to one of the childs other under-garments, or to some other convenient means of support. Thus in the drawing the contracted upper ends, x, ot' the drawerlegs are provided with button holes, so as to permit them to be buttoned to a waistband. v'Ihey may, however, be connected to the undershirt or other garment, and safetypins may be used in place of buttons to effect the attachment.
I claim as my invention- 'Ihe withimdesoribed under-garment,com prising two disconnected drawer-legs, each constructed at the upper end for attachment to some other portion of the apparel, all substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereofI have signed my name to` this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CAROLINE K. LIGHTGAPP. Witnesses:
