Description
M. F. HALE,
CREPER BIB,
APPLmATIoN FILM) APR. 1g, m22.
Patented July 25, 1922.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
METHEL r. HALE, or Gitovnn 1111.150310.
CREEPER BIB.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that METHEL F. HALE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Grover Hill, in the county of Paulding and State of Ohio, has invented new and useful Improvements in Creeper Bibs, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a garment particularly designed for infants wear which is adapted to perform jointly the functions of a bib and a creeper or of any the latter depends from and may as illustrated be formed of a single sheet of m-aterial with the former, with the lateral edges thereof extended to form side guards 12. shoulder straps 13, a waist band 14 and knee bands 16.
The shoulder straps `are referably constructed of a single length o material in the form of a loo swinging from the upper side edges of the ront body member 10 and integral therewith if so desired and as shown in the drawing so that the entire garment including the body and skirt portions with the looped shoulder strap may be cut from a single blank of material. Obviously the material may be selected in accordance with the particular object in View or the preference or taste of the maker, with the single restriction that it should be of suiiicient flexibility to adapt itself to the movements of the wearer, and hence may be made of any preferred type of fabric or of rubber or rubber cloth or other moisture resisting material, or may be made of muslin or cambric or the equivalent thereof designed merely to protect the clothing of the wearer from being soiled by foot or in creeping or by contact with objects while at play.
The loop of the shoulder straps is engaged asa means of supporting the gar- Specication ot Letters Patent.

ment by the waist band 14 connecting the upper ends of the side flaps or guards 12 at their rear edges and provided with a suitable adjustable fastening means such as the buckle 15.
The knee bands which are adapted to embrace the legs of the wearer below the knee are carried by the lower edge of the s 'rt' member of the garment and may also i desired be adjustable by being provided with or formed of elastic material as a means of holding them against displacement and thereby the release of the skirt portion of the garment.
The advantage accruing from the arrangement of the shoulder strap in a loo for the reception of the belt lies in the act that when a wearer is crawling, the strain is kept from the. back of the neck, since the action of crawling tends to drag the garments in the direction of the feet. Should the shoulder strap merely embrace the neck as is usual with neckbands, a pull would be exerted on the neck with consequent irritation. The looping of the shoulder strap and its engagement by the belt transfers this pull from the neck to a point in the vicinity of the waist line. The bands embracing the legs just below the knees are adapted to keep the lower edge. of the garment constantly overk the knees and thus the shoulder straps, belt and kneeband constantly maintain the garment inthe proper position on the body while permitting sliding movement of the same either toward the head or toward the feet, a suiicient distance to prevent its being uncomfortable in use.
claimed as new and useful is 1. A garment of the type indicated havi ing front body and skirt members anda looped strap formed as an extension of the body member at the upper edge of the latter and opposite sides of the same to provide right and left shoulder straps, a belt connecting the opposite edges of the skirt member and extending through the loop of the shoulder strap, and leg engaging members provided at the lower edge of the skirt member.
2. A garment of the type indicated having front body and skirt members of which the latter is provided with side flaps to ioo shield the leg of the wearer from the waistflaps and extending through the loop formed line to the knee, a looped strap formed as en by the shoulder strap, and leg enga' l 10 extension of the body member at the upper `means secured to the lower edge of the ssunl rt edge and vet opposite sides of the latter to portion and lower edges of said side flaps.
5 provide right and left shoulder straps form- In testimony whereof she axes her sig.-
ing a. loop at the back of the wearer adjenature. cent the wai'stdine, an adjustable belt conmeeting with the upper side'edges of the side THEL F. HALE.
