Claims (13)
- 컬러-디스플레이가 가능한 액정 디스플레이 장치에 있어서,각 메인 픽셀 유닛 안에, 적색 출력 서브 픽셀(sub-pixel), 녹색 출력 서브 픽셀, 청색 출력 서브 픽셀 및 휘도-증강(luminance-intensifying) 서브 픽셀을 구비한 액정 패널과,입력 이미지로부터 얻어지는, 적색 입력 서브 픽셀, 녹색 입력 서브 픽셀 및 청색 입력 서브 픽셀에 대한 디지털 값 각각을 사용하여 미리 정해진 계산 처리를 수행함으로써 상기 휘도-증강 서브 픽셀을 구동하기 위한 디지털 값을 제공하도록 구성되는 디코더를 포함하되,상기 액정 디스플레이 장치는, 상기 디코더에 의해 얻어진 상기 휘도-증강 서브 픽셀을 구동하기 위한 디지털 값과, 상기 적색, 녹색 및 청색 입력 서브 픽셀의 디지털 값을 사용함으로써, 상기 휘도-증강 서브 픽셀, 상기 적색 출력 서브 픽셀, 상기 녹색 출력 서브 픽셀 및 상기 청색 출력 서브 픽셀을 구동하고,상기 미리 정해진 계산 처리는, 함수 W=f(Ymin, Ymax)에 의해 상기 휘도 증강 서브 픽셀을 구동하기 위한 디지털 값을 얻되, 상기 휘도-증강 서브 픽셀의 디지털 값은 W로서 정의되며, 상기 적색 입력 서브 픽셀, 상기 녹색 입력 서브 픽셀 및 상기 청색 입력 서브 픽셀의 디지털 값의 최소값 및 최대값은 각각 Ymin 및 Ymax로 정의되고, 함수{f(Ymin, Ymax)}는 Ymin과 Ymax 모두에 의존하는 출력 값을 제공하며,상기 함수 W=f(Ymin, Ymax)는 상기 Ymax가 증가함에 따라 증가하는 함수인, 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 함수 W=f(Ymin, Ymax)는 상기 Ymin 또는 Ymax가 증가함에 따라 단조 증가하는 함수인, 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,각각이 상기 함수 W=f(Ymin, Ymax)에 의해 표현되는 복수 종류의 함수를 저장하도록 구성되는 메모리와,상기 메모리에 의해 저장된 상기 함수 W=f(Ymin, Ymax)에 의해 표현되는 복수 종류의 함수 중에서 선택하도록 구성되는 선택기를 더 포함하는, 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 적색 출력 서브 픽셀, 상기 녹색 출력 서브 픽셀 및 상기 청색 출력 서브 픽셀이 미리 정해진 제어 신호에 의거하여 휘도-증강 서브 픽셀을 사용하지 않고, 메인 픽셀 유닛을 형성하도록 배열되는, 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 함수 W=f(Ymin, Ymax)는 함수 W=(Ymax*Ymin)/MAX2으로서 주어지고, MAX는 적색 입력 서브 픽셀, 녹색 입력 서브 픽셀 및 청색 입력 서브 픽셀의 디지털 값이 취할 수 있는 최대값인, 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 5 항에 있어서, W를 결정하기 위한 적어도 하나의 다른 함수를 저장하도록 구성되는 메모리와,상기 메모리에 의해 저장된 W를 결정하기 위한 함수 중에서 선택하도록 구성되는 선택기를 더 포함하는, 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 6 항에 있어서, 적어도 하나의 다른 함수는 W=MAX*{Ymin+α)/(MAX+β)}n를 포함하고, MAX는 적색 입력 서브 픽셀, 녹색 입력 서브 픽셀 및 청색 입력 서브 픽셀의 디지털 값이 취할 수 있는 최대값인, 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 5항 또는 제 6 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,상기 디코더는,제어 신호를 수신하고,상기 제어 신호에 기초하여 상기 휘도-증강 서브 픽셀을 구동하기 위한 디지털 값을 선택적으로 제공하도록또한 구성되는, 액정 디스플레이 장치.
