- 전극을 갖는 한쌍의 기판과, 상기 한쌍의 기판에 끼워 유지된 액정층으로 이루어진 액정 셀과,상기 액정 셀의 양측에 배치된 제 1 및 제 2 편광판과,상기 액정 셀과 상기 제 1 편광판 사이에 배치된 제 1 위상차판과,상기 액정 셀과 상기 제 2 편광판 사이에 배치된 제 2 위상차판을 구비하고,상기 제 1 및 제 2 위상차판의 각각은, 기판면과 평행한 면내에 광축을 갖고, 또 면내의 위상차가 120㎚ 이상 160㎚ 이하이고, 상기 제 1 위상차판의 광축은 상기 제 2 위상차판의 광축과 직교하고 있고,상기 제 1 및 제 2 편광판의 편광축은 서로 직교하고, 또 상기 제 1 및 제 2 위상차판의 광축에 대하여 45°로 배치되며,상기 액정 셀의 액정은 수직 배향형 액정이고, 전압 인가 시에 액정 분자의 배향(配向) 상태가 극각(極角) 변화 또는 방위각 변화 또는 극각 변화와 방위각 변화의 양쪽을 수반하여 변화하도록 구성되고,상기 액정 셀과 상기 제 1 위상차판 사이에 nx = ny > nz 의 제 1 광학 필름이 배치되고,상기 제 1 위상차판과 상기 제 1 편광판 사이에 nx = ny < nz 의 제2 광학 필름이 배치되고,상기 제 1 위상차판과 상기 제 1 편광판 사이에, 또는 상기 제 2 위상차판과 상기 제 2 편광판 사이에 제 3 광학 필름이 배치된 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 14 항에 있어서,상기 제 3 광학 필름은 상기 제 1 편광판 또는 상기 제 2 편광판에 근접하여 배치되어 있고, 또 상기 제 3 광학 필름의 지상축과, 상기 제 3 광학 필름에 근접하는 편광판의 흡수축이 수직이 되도록 배치되어 있는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 14 항 또는 제 15 항에 있어서,상기 제 1 광학 필름의 위상차가 상기 액정층의 위상차와 동일하거나, 상기 제 1 광학 필름의 위상차와 상기 액정층의 위상차의 차이가 10% 이내이고,상기 제 1 광학 필름은 상기 액정층의 위상차를 소거하도록 설정되어 있는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 14 항 또는 제 15 항에 있어서,상기 제 1 및 제 2 위상차판에서, (nx + ny)/2 - nz 가 0±20 nm 인 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 14 항 또는 제 15 항에 있어서,상기 제 3 광학 필름의 면내의 위상차는, 상기 제 1 편광판과 상기 제 2 편광판 각각에 근접하여 배치시키는 경우, 25 nm 이상 70 nm 이하로 설정되어 있고,상기 제 1 편광판과 상기 제 2 편광판의 어느 한쪽에만 근접하여 배치시키는 경우, 60 nm 이상 160 nm 이하로 설정되어 있는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 14 항 또는 제 15 항에 있어서,상기 제 2 광학 필름의 기판에 대해 법선 방향의 위상차는 80 nm 이상 300 nm 이하로 설정되어 있는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 14 항 또는 제 15 항에 있어서,상기 액정 셀은 적어도 한쪽 기판의 전극에 설치된 구조물 또는 슬릿을 포함하고, 상기 액정층은 2분할 배향 또는 4분할 배향되어 있는 액정 표시 장치.
