Description
図1は第1実施形態の表示装置の構成を説明する駆動基板側の平面模式図であり、図2は図1におけるA−A’断面に対応する断面図であり、図3は図1におけるB−B’断面に対応する断面図である。これらの図1〜図3は、第1実施形態の表示装置1aにおいて、赤色画素3r、緑色画素3g、および青色画素3bを1組とした3画素分を図示している。尚、図1の平面模式図においては、一部の絶縁膜や配向膜等の図示を省略している。
図4は第2実施形態の表示装置の構成を説明する駆動基板側の平面模式図であり、図5は図4におけるA−A’断面に対応する断面図であり、図6は図4におけるB−B’断面に対応する断面図である。これらの図4〜図6は、第2実施形態の表示装置1bにおいて、赤色画素3r、緑色画素3g、および青色画素3bを1組とした3画素分を図示している。尚、図4の平面模式図においては、一部の絶縁膜や配向膜等の図示を省略している。
以上説明した本発明に係る表示装置は、図7〜図11に示す様々な電子機器、例えば、デジタルカメラ、ノート型パーソナルコンピュータ、携帯電話等の携帯端末装置、ビデオカメラなど、電子機器に入力された映像信号、若しくは、電子機器内で生成した映像信号を、画像若しくは映像として表示するあらゆる分野の電子機器の表示装置に適用することが可能である。以下に、本発明が適用される電子機器の一例について説明する。
Claims (9)
- 画素電極がパターン形成された第1基板と、当該第1基板に対向配置された第2基板と、前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に挟持された液晶層とを備え、前記第1基板および前記第2基板の一方に前記画素電極に対応して複数色のカラーフィルタがそれぞれパターン形成された各色の画素を設けてなる表示装置において、
前記第1基板上には、前記各色の画素に対応する前記画素電極との間に絶縁膜を介して前記各色の画素に共通の共通電極が設けられており、前記各色の画素毎に、対応する前記画素電極に接続された薄膜トランジスタと共に、該画素電極と前記共通電極とで構成される容量素子が設けられており、
前記各色の画素は、色毎に異なる画素面積で構成されるとともに、前記各色の画素に対応する前記画素電極は、当該画素電極を用いて構成される前記容量素子における保持容量が前記各色の画素間で略等しくなるように構成され、
前記各色の画素の色毎に、前記画素面積に対する前記画素電極の面積比が異なる、
ことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項1記載の表示装置において、
前記画素電極の面積は、前記各色の画素間で略等しくなるように構成されている、
ことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項1記載の表示装置において、
前記画素電極は、平行に配列された複数の電極部と、当該複数の電極部を接続するブリッジ部とを備え、当該ブリッジ部の幅によって面積が調整されている、
ことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項3記載の表示装置において、
前記ブリッジ部は遮光膜で覆われている、
ことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項3記載の表示装置において、
前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間には、前記液晶層と共にスペーサが挟持され、
前記スペーサは、前記ブリッジ部に配置されている、
ことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項1記載の表示装置において、
前記各色の画素のうち、最も波長の長い色の画素の前記画素面積が最も小さい、
ことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項6記載の表示装置において、
前記最も波長の長い色の画素は、前記画素面積に対する前記画素電極の面積比が前記各色の画素のうちで最も大きい、
ことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項1記載の表示装置において、
前記第1基板および前記第2基板の一方の外側に、他の波長領域と比較して青色の波長領域の光の発生強度が高いバックライトが設けられ、
前記各色の画素のうち、青色の画素の前記画素面積が最も小さく構成されている、
ことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項8記載の表示装置において、
前記各色の画素のうち、緑色の画素の前記画素面積が最も大きく構成されている、
ことを特徴とする表示装置。
