Abstract
【解決手段】液晶パネルの各画素における緑サブ画素の開口率aGを所望値に固定した状態で、白輝度効率を、バックライトの色温度の低下に応じて増加する発光効率と、青サブ画素の開口率の増加に応じて減少する画素の透過率との釣り合いから定まる極大値にするように、赤サブ画素及び青サブ画素それぞれの開口率aR,aBを設定する。

Claims (3)
- 照射光を発生する光源と、
一対の基板間に挟持された液晶層、及び各画素に設けられる赤、緑及び青のサブ画素に対応したカラーフィルタ基板を含み、前記照射光の透過を制御する液晶パネルと、
を有し、
前記液晶パネルの前記各画素における赤サブ画素及び青サブ画素それぞれの開口率は、緑サブ画素の開口率を所望値に固定した状態で、白輝度効率を、前記光源の色温度の低下に応じて増加する発光効率と、前記青サブ画素の開口率の増加に応じて減少する前記画素の透過率との釣り合いから定まる極大値にするように定められていること、
を特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 赤、緑及び青の蛍光体にそれぞれY2O3:Eu3+、LaPO4:Tb3+、及び(Sr,Ca)10(PO4)6Cl2:Eu2+を使用する冷陰極蛍光ランプからなり、照射光を発生する光源と、
一対の基板間に挟持された液晶層、及び各画素に設けられる赤、緑及び青のサブ画素に対応したカラーフィルタ基板を含み、前記照射光の透過を制御する液晶パネルと、
を有し、
前記液晶パネルの前記各画素における赤サブ画素、緑サブ画素及び青サブ画素の開口率は、相互の比が0.6:1.1:1.3となるように設定され、
前記光源の色温度は、前記画素が白で表示されるように設定されていること、
を特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1又は請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置において、
当該液晶表示装置は、前記各サブ画素に、走査線からゲートに印加される制御電圧に応じて当該サブ画素に配置された個別電極を信号線に接続する薄膜トランジスタを備えたアクティブマトリクス駆動方式であり、
ゲート幅Wとゲート長Lとの比W/Lで定義する前記薄膜トランジスタのサイズは、前記赤サブ画素、前記緑サブ画素及び前記青サブ画素間での当該サイズの比が前記開口率の比に応じた値となるように設定されること、
を特徴とする液晶表示装置。
