Description
この出願は、2001年11月14日にファイルされた同時係属の米国特許出願第09/990,794号、および2002年5月24日にファイルされた同時係属の米国特許出願第10/155,786号の一部継続出願であり、それら各々の内容は参照してここに組み込まれる。
図2Aは、導電体及び誘電体が、概して「I」字状構造で配置さている電気コネクタの概略図である。このようなコネクタは、譲受人の「I−BEAM」技術に具体化されており、また、「低クロス及びインピーダンスが制御された電気コネクタ」と題された米国特許第5,741,144号明細書に記載されかつ請求されており、その開示全体は参照してここに組み込まれる。
本発明に従って、上述した基本的な原理を、さらに分析し、かつ展開し、また該原理は、上記信号接点及び接地接点の適切な配置及び構造を決めることにより、該接点間にシールドがない場合でも、隣接する信号接点間のクロストークをどのように制限するかを判断するのに利用することができる。図2Bは、本発明による信号接点S及び接地接点Gの接点配列において、アクティブな列をベースとした差分信号の組S+、S−の近傍における等電位線を含む。図に示すように、等電位線42は、0Vに最も近接しており、等電位線44は、−1Vに最も近接しており、また等電位線46は、+1Vに最も近接している。電圧は、アクティブな組に最も近い「静かな」差分信号の組において、必ずしも0にならないが、該静かな組に伴う干渉は、0に近いことが分かっている。すなわち、正方向の静かな差分組信号接点に影響を与える電圧は、負方向の静かな差分組信号接点に影響を与える電圧とほぼ等しい。従って、上記正方向信号と負方向信号との間の電圧差である該静かな組に対するノイズはゼロに近い。
図4Aは、(例えば、差分信号の組が、列状に配列されている)列をベースとする差分信号の組を有する本発明によるコネクタ100を示す。(本願明細書で用いる「列」という言葉は、上記接点が、それに沿って縁部結合される方向を意味する。「行」は、列と直角である。)図に示すように、各列401〜406は、上部から底部へ順に、第1の差分信号の組と、第1の接地導体と、第2の差分信号の組と、第2の接地導体とを備える。図を見て分かるように、第1の列401は、上部から底部に順に、信号導体S1+及びS1−を備える第1の差分信号の組と、第1の接地導体Gと、信号導体S7+及びS7−を備える第2の差分信号の組と、第2の接地導体Gとを備える。行413及び416の各々は、複数の接地導体Gを備える。行411及び412は、共に、6つの差分信号の組を備え、行514及び515は共に、別の6つの差分信号の組を備える。接地導体からなる行413及び416は、行411〜412の信号組と、行414〜415の信号組との間のクロストークを制限する。図4Aに示す実施の形態においては、36個の接点を列状に配置すると、12個の差分信号の組を形成することができる。上記コネクタは、シールドがないので、上記接点は、(シールドを有するコネクタと比較して)比較的大きく形成することができる。従って、所望のインピーダンスを実現するためには、より小さいコネクタ空間を要する。
図8は、差分信号の組の信号導体が、該差分信号の組の長さに沿って、実質的に一定の差動インピーダンスを有している、高速電気コネクタに注力する本発明に係る直角電気コネクタの斜視図である。図8に示すように、コネクタ800は、第1の部分801と、第2の部分802とを備える。第1の部分801は、第1の電子装置810に電気的に接続されており、また、第2の部分802は、第2の電子装置812に電気的に接続されている。このような接続部は、SMT、PIP、はんだボールグリッドアレイ、圧入、あるいは他のそのような接続部であってもよい。一般には、このような接続部は、接続ピンの間に通常の接続間隔を有する従来の接続部であるが、このような接続部は、接続ピン間に他の間隔を有してもよい。第1の部分801及び第2の部分802は、共に電気的に接続することができ、それにより、第1の電子装置810を第2の電子装置812に電気的に接続する。
Claims (28)
- 相互に結合された短辺を有する縁部結合されている差分信号の組に配置された複数の信号接点と、
行方向に沿って縁部結合されている差分信号の組の各1つの間にそれぞれ位置された複数の接地接点とを備え、
前記縁部結合されている差分信号の組は、6つの攻撃組と1つの犠牲組とを有し、この6つの攻撃組は、前記犠牲組に対する8つの最も近接した隣接する縁部結合されている差分信号の組のうちの6つであり、この犠牲組と6つの攻撃組の2つは、行方向に沿って位置され、この6つの攻撃組の4つは、前記犠牲組に隣接し、かつそれに最も近接して位置されており、かつ前記犠牲組における最悪の場合のクロストークは、シールドとしての金属性プレートの必要性が、10ギガビット/秒の通信速度では不必要である程度に制限される電気コネクタ。 - 相互に結合された長辺を有する側面結合されている差分信号の組に配置された複数の信号接点と、
行方向に側面結合されている差分信号の組のそれぞれの1つの間に位置された複数の接地接点とを備え、
前記側面結合されている差分信号の組は、6つの攻撃組と1つの犠牲組とを有し、この6つの攻撃組は、前記犠牲組に対する8つの最も近接した隣接する縁部結合されている差分信号の組のうちの6つであり、この犠牲組と6つの攻撃組の2つは、行方向に沿って位置され、この6つの攻撃組の4つは、前記犠牲組に隣接し、かつそれに最も近接して位置されており、かつ前記犠牲組における最悪の場合のクロストークは、シールドとしての金属性プレートのための必要性は、10ギガビット/秒の通信速度では不必要になる程度に制限される電気コネクタ。 - 約1.4mmの行ピッチを有する、請求項1または2に記載の電気コネクタ。
- 約2.0mmの列ピッチを有する、請求項1または2に記載の電気コネクタ。
- 約25mmのカードピッチを有する、請求項1または2に記載の電気コネクタ。
- 前記複数の信号接点および複数の接地接点が伸びるハウジングを備える、請求項1または2に記載の電気コネクタ。
- 前記ハウジングは、前記複数の信号接点を絶縁する誘電物質で、少なくとも一部が充填されている、請求項6に記載の電気コネクタ。
- 前記誘電物質は空気である、請求項7に記載の電気コネクタ。
- 前記電気コネクタは、直角のボールグリッドアセンブリコネクタである、請求項1または2に記載の電気コネクタ。
- 直線上インチ毎に63.5の結合信号組を有し、40ピコ秒の立ち上がり時間で、約3%以下の近端部クロストークを有する、請求項1または2に記載の電気コネクタ。

前記プラグコネクタが前記レセプタクルコネクタと完全に結合している間であって、
前記プラグコネクタが、前記レセプタクルコネクタに部分的に結合しているときに、前記犠牲組における最悪の場合のクロストークが制限される、請求項1または2に記載の電気コネクタ。 - 前記複数の信号接点は、それぞれ前記複数の信号接点の1つと結合方向を横断する前記複数の信号レセプタクルの1つとを合わせた断面領域とほぼ同じである、前記結合方向を横断する断面領域を有する、請求項15に記載の電気コネクタ装置。
- 前記差分信号の組は、それぞれ前記第1の導体および第2の導体を有し、ギャップ幅は、この第1の導体および第2の導体間に画定され、前記第1の導体と第2の導体との間のインピーダンスが、第1の長さ及び第2の長さに沿って実質的に一定である請求項1または2に記載の電気コネクタ。
- 前記インピーダンスは、一定の差分インピーダンスである、請求項17に記載の電気コネクタ。
- 前記一定の差分インピーダンスは、前記第1及び第2の長さに沿って、10%以下変動する、請求項18に記載の電気コネクタ。
