Abstract
955,620. Hinges. F. BANK. March 16, 1962, No. 10273/62. Heading E2F. A hinge for a horizontally pivoted window comprises a plate 20 secured to the window frame 10, a plate 24 secured to the hinged casement 12, and a link 28 pivoted (in the closed position of the window) at its lower and upper ends to the plates 20, 24 respectively so that the plates and the link are substantially in alignment, the window being adapted to open inwardly through 180 degrees and the movement of the hinge consisting of an initial rotation of the link through 90 degrees about its pivotal connection 30 with the plate 20 until it is arrested by a stop 54, and a further rotation of the plate 24 through 90 degrees about its pivotal connection 40 with the link. The plate 24 has a stop 56 to engage the link and limit the relative rotation of the plate and link to 90 degrees, anda finger 50 adapted to move inside an arcuate guide 52 on the plate 20 during the initial 90 degrees rotation of the hinge to ensure that this rotation takes place only about the pivot 30. The finger abuts the stop 54 to arrest the closing movement of the window. Spring washers are included in the pivots 30, 40 to provide friction.
