818,509. Hinges and pivots. ATVIDABERGS BUTIKSINREDNINGAR A. B. April 11, 1957 [May 16, 1956], No. 11940/57. Class 65(2) A window hinge comprises a fitting 1 having a semi-circular flange 3 and a fitting 2 having two concentric semicircular flanges 4, 5, at least one of which can be pressed against the flange 3 which moves between them, the fitting attached to the window frame having also a stud 6 which engages in an open arcuate seat 7, in the fitting attached to the sash, the construction being such that when the window is moved between the closed and a predetermined open position, e.g. 120 degrees, it is supported entirely by the flanges, between 120 and 180 degrees by the stud and flanges together, and thereafter by the stud alone. The fitting 2 is attached to the sash, and the flange 5, which is resilient and detachable, is pressed against the flange 3 by a pin 13a carried by the fitting and adjustable by a screw 10. A rocking arm, comprising an arcuate cover 15 for the seat 7 and two edges 16, 17, is pivoted at 14 on the fitting 2, and a pin 18 on the fitting 1 is placed so that it abuts the edge 17 during the closing of the window and turns the rocking arm to close the seat 7, and abuts the edge 16 when the window is being opened to open the seat and permit the sash to be lifted off the frame. A spring detent 21 engages the pin 18 to hold the window at a predetermined open position. In a modification the flange 3, stud 6, and pin 18 are carried by a separate plate fixed to the fitting 1 and adjustable longitudinally relative thereto. The rocking arm may be replaced by a slide which is moved by the pin 18 to close the seat 7 but must be released manually.
