Abstract

1311274 Double door or window; window and door operating mechanism TIMBER RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION 11 June 1970 [24 April 1969] 21060/69 Headings E1J and E2M A double door or window comprises opposed inner and outer panels 11, 12 individually hinged at 13, 14 to a frame 15 and linked together at their free edges so that pivotal movement of one panel is accompanied by similar movement of the other, the panels remaining parallel throughout. The panel free edges may be linked by an edge closure panel 21 hinged at 22, 23 to the free edges (Fig. 1), or by a rod 41 formed as a radially extending arm on a torsion bar spring 42 mounted parallel with the hinge axis on one panel (Fig. 5), the spring urging the door or window to return to its closed position. If the hinges 13, 14, 22, 23 lie at the corners of a rectangle (Fig. 1), the door or window may open inwards or outwards. The frame beading 17 and panel inner edges 18 may have co-operating curved surfaces centred on the hinge axis, which surfaces may be provided with a draught seal. Fire resistant or sound absorbent material may be provided on the inner surfaces of the panels.
