[Also in Group XXV] The hinge of a step-ladder comprises a stop 6 on the hinge boss of one leaf 1 engaging an abutment on the other leaf to prevent collapse of the ladder should the check cords break. The abutment may be the end of a strengthening rib 7. The end of the leaf 1 has a lug 8 which is bent over and fastened to the capping tread 9.
