[Also in Group XXIV] In a loft, ship or aircraft ladder comprising a pair of lazy tongs mechanisms, the inner pivots 6 are displaced from the centres of the links 4, 5 so that the rungs 16 and spacers 17 which are mounted on the outer pivots are staggered when the ladder is collapsed. The mechanism is held extended by the end spacer 15 engaging a notch 14 in the top link 13. Two ladders may be connected together to form a pair of steps.
