Class 20(1) An extensible curtain or stair rod comprises two telescoping tubes 1, 2 with end caps 5 containing a compression spring 3 anchored at one end to the inner tube 2 and engaged at its other end by projections 4 within the outer tube 1 so that rotation of the inner tube 2 contracts the rod by translatory movement of the spring 3 relative to the projections 4. The end caps 5 may have spikes 7 or serrations 8 or be secured by rubber suckers or steel pins. They can also be provided with transverse recesses 6 for engagement by hook supports. The projections 4 may comprise beads or a threaded sleeve or a spiral spring. The spring 3 may be tapered at both ends.
