870,244. Tripods. VON WIMMERSPERG, H. Dec. 17, 1959, No. 42988/59. Class 52(3). [Also in Group XXV] A support has one or more telescopic legs comprising two or more hollow shaft members 11, 14, 20, the uppermost shaft having a top 13 screwed into it at its upper end and the upper ends of the other shaft have locking heads 13, 19, screwed on. The locking heads have cams 15 and 21 that frictionally engage the outer shafts 11, 14 when a downward force is applied. The cam 21 is disengaged by rod 25 which is fixed to the ring 28 by a screw 26, knocking it out of place; the cam 15 is disengaged by the rod 32 which is fixed to the top of the locking head 19. The leg may be collapsed by raising the ring 28 or by quickly inverting the leg. An alternative form of locking head (Fig. 4) has part 34 screwed into the lower shaft 35 and has cylindrical recesses 45, 46 which hold flat links 41, 42 in the recesses 49, 50 of the locking shoe 37 which engages the outer shaft 36. When more than one leg is used a cap 55 connected to the top shaft by a rivet 56, spring 57 and ring 58 hold the legs in a collapsed position. When only one leg is used a spring loaded catch 69 engages the groove 75 in a collar 64 fixed to the uppermost shaft to keep the leg in a collapsed position.
