Abstract

The invention relates to 5-methoxy-b -ethyltryptamine, its acid addition salts and the preparation thereof by condensing 3-formyl-5-methoxy-indole with nitromethane and reacting the resulting 2-(51-methoxy-indolyl-31)-1-nitroethylene with an ethyl Grignard reagent and reducing the 2-(51-methoxy-indolyl-31)-1-nitrobutane formed. The base may be converted into its acid addition salts. Specification 910,992 is referred to.
