Class 20(1) An aluminium rod comprises an inner tube 1 telescoping in an outer tube 2 and containing a compression spring 4 attached to an ear 3 of the inner tube 1 and threaded past a pin 5 in the outer tube 2. The amount of compression of the rod can be adjusted by rotating the tubes to vary the position of the spring 4 relative to the pin 5. Rubber plugs 6 or spiked or serrated ends provide a grip. Applications to bookshelf supports and shop displays are mentioned.
