Abstract
804,027. Pipe &c. connections. TIPPING, W. F. June 7, 1957 [June 13, 1956], No. 18303/6. Class 99(1). A flange for connecting a pipe or an immersion heater to a tank 10 comprises an inner bearing ring 11 shaped to fit against the inner surface of and around an aperture in the tank and provided with a gap at one part of the circumference thereof of sufficient width to permit the ring to be inserted through the aperture, an inner, screw-threaded clamping ring 12 of smaller size than the aperture and having a flange 17, or a shoulder, for holding the ring 11 against the tank, and an outer member 13 including a bearing ring 21 adapted to fit against the outer surface of the tank and a screw-threaded part for engagement with the screw-thread of the ring 12 to draw the latter towards the member 13 so that the wall of the tank is gripped between the rings 11, 21. As shown in Fig. 2, the ring 11 has a projecting shoulder 15 for location of the ring with respect to the aperture, and the flange 17 engages within the ring 11 ; the flange has a projecting portion 18 which engages in the gap of the ring 11, and, on that portion a key 19 disposed in a slot cut in the tank wall at the edge of the aperture to prevent turning of the ring 12. A key may be provided on the ring 11. A packing ring 22 is located between the wall of the tank and the ring 21. In a modification, the bearing rings 31, 33 are shaped to conform with the curved wall of the tank.
