Abstract

872,908. Hose couplings. AEROQUIP A.G. Aug. 10, 1959 [Oct. 13, 1958], No. 27307/59. Class 99(1). A detachable re-usable end fitting for a flexible hose 10 comprises a tubular nipple 12 having a cylindrical portion for insertion into the end of the hose and an annular shoulder 14 against which the end of the hose is abutted, a fulcrum ring 22 carried by the nipple and defining an annular space, a number of segments 28 forming a socket and each having a reduced end 32 for engagement under the ring 22 and within the annular space with the axis of the segments inclined to the axis of the nipple, the segments being pivoted inwardly to embrace the hose and clamped by a retaining ring 40 engaged over the ends thereof. As shown in Fig. 2, the nipple and segments respectively are provided with ribs 16, 30, and the ring 40 is engageable in a recess 34 formed in the segments. In a modification an annular, axially extending projection integral with the lip 14 and having a sharp edge cuts into the hose to form a fluid sealing flap between the projection and the nipple, and the retaining ring 40 has a cylindrical end portion provided with helically disposed projections so that a hose guard spring may be screwed on to the ring.
