Abstract
809,097. Hose and fittings. RESISTOFLEX CORPORATION. Feb. 5, 1957 [March 29, 1956], No. 3949/57. Class 99(1). A nipple 10 has a ribbed surface 20 which is inserted into a hose 22 and is secured thereto by a tapered split sleeve 28 having a ribbed inner surface 29 which grips on the hose braid 25, the end 30 of the sleeve 28 having a projecting key 32 which engages in a recess 26 on a shoulder 19 on the nipple and the sleeve being engaged by a tapered end 38 of a socket member 35 which can be drawn on to the nipple by engaging a screw-thread 18. The ribs 20 on the nipple 10 are annular and the end 21 is rounded to facilitate entry into the hose bore. The split sleeve 28 has helical ridges 29 which have flat tops so as not to cut the hose and the external surface is smooth and of approximately 4¢ degrees taper and correspoonds to the internal taper of the socket. The gap in the sleeve is disposed at a slight angle to the axis and is such that when the sleeve 28 is fully contracted the gap will close and at this point the edge 40 of the socket just contacts the hexagonal part 15 of the body 11. The sleeve may be made of steel annealed to dead soft condition.
