Abstract

984,947. Pipe couplings. SINGLEHURST ENGINEERING Ltd. Jan. 15, 1964 [April 2, 1963], No. 12930/63. Heading F2G. A disconnectible screw coupling comprises a female end fitting 1 having an externally screw-threaded head 2 extending from an annular shoulder 3 and counterbored from its outer end to form a parallel sided socket 4, and a male end fitting 5 having a parallel sided head 6 fitting the socket, together with a sealing ring 7 housed in a peripheral groove 8 in either the head 6 or socket 4 for sealing engagement with the socket 4 or head 6 respectively, and a union nut 21 rotatably carried by the male end fitting for screwing on to the female end fitting, the length of the union nut being such that it can be screwed up tight to the annular shoulder 3 without causing any binding between the heads of the male and female members. A hose is held between two sleeves 11, 12 and 15, 16 of each member swaged together or provided with screw threads to render the fittings re-usable. A locking ring 23 e.g. of nylon may be provided on the female member to engage the end of the union nut, or it may be situated in a peripheral groove interrupting the threads of the union nut. Preferably the mouth of socket 4 is flared, and the outside end of head 6 is chamfered.
