Abstract

[Also in Group VI] A power-operated cutting tool for paring hooves comprises a fixed blade mounted on a casing and a co-operating reciprocable cutting blade driven through gearing within the casing and controlled by a trigger. The hollow body 1 carries a fixed blade and a movable blade 6 mounted on a pivot 7. The rear part of the blade 6 has a slot 9 in which slides a block 10 mounted on a crank pin 11 on a rotatable disc 12. The disc 12 forms the driven member of a clutch the outer member 14 of which is a worm wheel driven by a worm 15 on a shaft 16. The two members may be locked together by a pivoted pawl 18, on the crank disc 12, being engaged in a slot in the worm wheel 14, but the pawl is normally held disengaged by a detent 23. When a knob 29 is pressed, however, the detent 23 is withdrawn by a lever 24, the pawl engages and the disc 12 is rotated by the drive to actuate the shears. If the knob 29 is immediately released, the disc 12 makes only a single revolution, but if the knob is held depressed the actuation of the cutting blade is continuous.
