680,267. Machinery guards. SCHULER A.KT.-GES., L. Oct. 4, 1950 [Oct. 28, 1949], No. 24268/50. Class 80 (iv). A finger guard i of sheet metal shears having a moving blade b and work holding down means f is interconnected with the machine starting device so that the machine cannot operate if the guard i is raised. The guard i is pivoted about a shaft k and operates a slide member o which co-operates with a lever p operated with the pedal c of a starting device such as a rotary key clutch. The holding down means f is operated by a cam and lever device d, e before the stroke of the blade and released when the clutch device is disengaged after the completion of a stroke. The guard may control an electrical or hydraulic connection between the operating pedal and the starting device instead of the mechanical connection shown.
