Abstract

762,750. Wedges; cotters. VANWERSCH, A. Aug. 13, 1953 [Aug. 13, 1952], No. 11673/56. Divided out of 762,667. Class 89 (2). [Also in Group X] Mine-roof girders 33, 34, Fig. 1, are connected by a pivot-pin 35 and cotters 1 driven into holes 32 in girder 33 and engaging surfaces 36 on the end of the girder 34. Each cotter has a parallel-sided part 23, Fig. 3, at the small end of each tapered part 22, which remains in engagement with the end of the girder 34 and prevents it from falling if the cotter becomes loose in girder 33. The cotter may have only one taper 22 and flat 23, or the parts 22 may taper away from the centre, Fig. 4 (not shown). The cotter has a narrow part 24 which allows the end 38 of the girder 34 to clear it if it is desired to swing girder 34 down about pivot 35. The cotter is locked in position by means engaging the end 26, as described in Specification 762,667.
