Abstract
569,595. Chocks for shoring mines &c. BATHGATE, G. M., and RAYNES, M. T. May 28, 1943, No. 8543. [Class 20 (ii)] A chock for shoring mines &c. has a member 10, Fig. 1, provided with at least two plates 13 spaced apart longitudinally thereof to receive vertically-slidable heads 14 provided with inclined bases 15 engaged by wedges 17 whereby the heads, or further members of the chock carried by the heads, are raised to support the roof &c. of the mine working. A bolt 20 is secured in each plate 13, after assembly of the head and wedge, to limit the upward movement of the head, and the wedge is slotted to prevent disengagement from the plate 13. Where the upper member of the chock is a section girder, the flanges may be slotted as at 24, Fig. 3, to receive forked projections of the plate 25 which are bolted to the web of the girder. In a further modification an inverted T-section member may have its flange bolted to the H-girder, the wedge and head being fitted similarly over the web of the T-section. In another modification a short upright H-section 31, Fig. 4, with verticallyadjustable head 32 and wedge 33 as described in Specification 428,055 may be secured at opposite ends of an H -girder 34 by angle brackets 35. A wooden block or beam may be used instead of the base 10, Fig. 1, or H-girders.
