Abstract

641,644. Mine supports. LEWIS, W. E. Aug. 31, 1946, No. 26247. [Class 20(ii)] A roof support for a coal mine comprises uprights supporting horizontal members A, the uprights being in two parts D, E made from H-section steel joined by fish plates F which fit exactly between the flanges of the uprights and are secured to them by nuts and bolts 1, 2, the uprights being joined to the horizontal members A by means of clips B, Fig. 4. The clips are bolted to the uprights. The uprights are mounted under the middle of the horizontal members and the supporting structure can be extended by adding further upright and horizontal members, the horizontal members being joined end to end by fish plates F, Fig. 3.
