Abstract
696,140. Bearings. CHURCHILL MACHINE TOOL CO., Ltd., and ASBRIDGE, G. H. Sept. 19, 1951 [Oct. 9, 1950], No. 24570/50. Class 12 (i). A shaft bearing which can be adjusted to give a predetermined clearance comprises a split inner sleeve f abutting a shoulder g on the housing, an outer sleeve e to fit the taper of the sleeve f and the cylindrical housing, this outer sleeve having a flange with screws k therethrough and C-shaped washers m, and dovetail nuts h in the split of the sleeve f to lock the sleeves together. By varying the thickness of the washers and by adjustment of the nuts h the bearing clearance can be adjusted and the bearing locked in that position. The Provisional Specification describes an adjustable bearing having an inner split sleeve tapered only at its ends, these ends co-operating with split rings one of which may be adjusted axially by means of screws passing through it into the end face of the housing.
