Abstract

572,482. Bearings. CHAPMAN, L. A. Dec. 28,1943, No. 21707. [Class 12 (i)] Annular caps for ball or roller bearings engage shoulders on the rotating shafts to provide emergency bearings on breakdown of the main bearings. The main bearings 3 abut shoulders 16 on the shaft 1 whilst the annular caps 8 abut shoulders 14. The end cap-6 may form a bearing for the end 18 of the shaft, and it may be annular for a shaft extension. The caps 6, 8 are recessed into the same or opposite sides of the housing 2, and may be formed of or lined with bearing metal.
