Abstract
583,985. Rolling screw - threads &c. MORRIS, H. Sept. 8, 1944, No. 17187. [Class 83 (iv)] Screw threads, circumferential grooves, serrations, &c. are rolled at different parts of the work simultaneouly, by two or more sets of rolls. Two relatively adjustable housings b are mounted on grooves in a bed-plate a, each carrying a pair of rolls d, one carried in the stationary lower-half and the other in a pivotally mounted upper-half. The upper-half oscillates about a spindle g under the action of a positively driven cam h, mounted on a shaft p in the lower half, co-acting with a vertically adjustable roller j, the cam forcing the rolls into the work o. The rolls in each housing are positively driven through change gearing from a common shaft q, one wheel in each train being adjustable in a slotted bell-crank lever s. The shafts p, q, are driven through wormgearing v, u, mounted on a power shaft t, the shaft p being driven through a clutch w. An adjustable member n supports the work and may be replaced by another roll.
