Abstract
670,839. Fluid-actuated valves. WAGER, R. H. Dec. 20, 1949 [Oct. 4, 1949], No. 32586/49. Class 135. A valve suitable for use with soot blowers of the kind employing steam at high pressure, e.g. 600 p.s.i., is arranged to permit entry into the blower head of scavenging air when the blower is not working but to close the air inlet when the blower is in operation. The valve comprises a valve member 27 with a grooved stem 28 slidable in a housing 16, 17 and opened by a spring 33 acting on a flange 32. Normally, scavenging air enters at 18 and passes through the valve to the blower head 11, but when the blower is put into operation, steam passing into the valve housing from the blower head closes the valve. The grooves 35 in the stem are such as to prevent too rapid closing movement. A washer 36 placed against the flange 32 adapts the valve for lower steam pressures. In a modification, a spring abutment adjustable on a thread on the part 31 of the valve member is provided.
