Abstract
937,321. Valves. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Dec. 22, 1959 [Jan. 13, 1959], No. 43508/59. Class 135. A fluid-pressure regulator has a valve closure 6 formed by a member 39 covered with a resilient material, the closure 6 being slidable over a guide 27 and a spring 28 in a chamber 29 being interposed therebetween; the chamber 29 is open, via a bore 30, with a space 31 downstream of the valve seat 7, which space leads to the valve outlet 5 and a cylinder 35 that houses a piston 15 which is urged upwardly by an adjustable spring 19 so that the upper end of a tubular piston-rod 17 engages and unseats the closure 6; the latter has a splined depending portion engaged in the rod 17. Upon admitting compressed air into the inlet 4 it flows past the closure to the outlet 5 as well as entering the chamber 29 and cylinder 35, the resultant force tending to seat the closure against the action of the spring 19, whereby the outlet pressure is controlled since the spring 28 will maintain the closure against the rod 17. Should the outlet pressure exceed a given value the piston 15 is depressed sufficiently far to take the upper end of the rod 17 out of contact with the closure 6, thereby enabling the air in space 31 to escape to atmosphere via the rod 17 and an outlet 37.
