Safety valves. - A safety valve of the kind controlled by an auxiliary valve has the main valve seat provided with an upstanding flange 3 adapted to co-operate with a ported sleeve 2 en the valve to prevent scoring of the closure 4, 5. The valve is normally held to its seat by inlet pressure admitted through a slide valve 10 to a chamber 7 at the back of a piston 6 secured to the valve 1. The slide valve has ports 14 adapted to co-operate with ports 15 in the chamber wall and is closed by inlet pressure raising a piston 12 against the action of a loading spring 11. The slide valve spindle is coupled by levers 16, 17 to a spring loaded relief valve 20 so that as the valve 10 is closed the valve 20 is opened to connect the chamber 7 to atmosphere. According to the Provisional Specification the antisc.oring device comprises a ported sleeve on the valve member co-operating with a correspondingly ported flange surrounding the valve seat. The auxiliary valve may also have a sealing collar adapted to engage a renewable seat in the casing and the main piston may be fitted with a flexible disc adapted to engage a shoulder in the cylinder when the main valve is closed.
