Abstract
669,838. Endless-belt conveyers. PENN, O. S. Jan. 27; 1950. [Jan. 27, 1949] No. 2292/49. Class 78 (i). In a portable conveyer of the type comprising demountable sections joined end to end, the joints formed by the adjacent ends being supported by detachable leg units, the sections comprise bearers, each of which supports a plurality of parallel endless belts, and the leg units are attached to two adjacent bearers either by the engagement of open-ended slotted members on the ends of the bearers with a common axle member on the leg unit, or by the engagement of axle members on the ends of the sections with open-ended slots in the leg units, the construction being such that when assembled the belts of adjoining bearers pass around co-axial pulleys by which a drive is transmitted from one set of belts to another. The leg units 1 are equipped with a driving motor 2 and have four adjustable feet. The remaining leg units 10 have no motor and two adjustable feet. In the first form described above, the motor 2 is coupled by a belt drive to a shaft 4 mounted in a sleeve 3 at the upper end of leg unit 1, shaft 4 carrying at its outer ends two pairs of pulleys 5. Supports 10 each carry a shaft 14 mounted in a sleeve 13 and carrying pairs of pulleys 15. The bearers 16 each consist of a pair of parallel bars 17 interconnected at intervals by welded sleeves 18, Fig. 8. A shaft carrying a pair of idler pulleys 20 is carried in each sleeve 18. Two endless bands 7 are passed around one pair of pulleys on each of two adjacent leg units and are supported intermediate the leg units by the pulleys 20. The bars 17 are provided at each end with the open-ended slotted members 21, in the slots of which the sleeves 13 or 3 of the leg units are received. Members 21 are pivotally adjustable so that with the bands 7 in place they can be turned up or down to engage the sleeves 3 or 13 and afterwards aligned with the bars 17 to tension the bands 7. A pin 22 is passed through aligned holes in the bearers 16 and the members 21 for locking the latter in aligned position, the holes being formed as keyways through which a peg 23 on the pin 22 passes, the pin 22 being then turned to prevent it from coming out. In the second form, Figs. 11 and 12, coaxial pulleys 5a, 5b, are respectively carried by U-brackets 29 on the adjacent ends of the bearers and are coupled together by dogs 30, the aligned stack shafts 28 of the adjacent ends being then lowered into openended slots in the leg units 31.
