[Class 78 (i)] In a conveyer composed of a number of wheeled units arranged in tandem, each of which has a series of live rollers, or an endless belt, mounted on its upper surface and is provided with means for' connecting it detachably to adjacent units, each unit is provided with links at one end which are adapted to be secured to the adjacent end of an adjoining unit and which support a cradle having a conveying and directing roller freely mounted therein. Each unit has deep side walls 3, Fig. 1, or preferably more shallow ones, Fig. 6, and is provided with a pin 25 at one end for insertion into an aperture 24 in a bracket 23 mounted on the adjacent end of the next unit. A motor 6 depends from the base and drives a sprocket 19 on the shaft of the end roller 20 through belt and chain-and-sprocket gearing. The rollers are connected in pairs and driven by chains 21 arranged alternately on the opposite ends of the rolls. One of the units is provided with an additional motor for driving its wheels in order that it may be used as a tractor. Each unit is provided at one end with an extension carrying a pair of rollers which bridges the gap between the units. The rollers 63, Fig. 12, are mounted in a cradle 59 provided with slots 58 which receive pins 53, 56. These pins connect pivotally pairs of links 51, 52 and 54, 55. The ends of the links 51, 54 and 52, 55 are connected pivotally by eyelets which receive pins 64 mounted in the ends of links 65. These links are connected pivotally to the units by pins 66. Toothed wheels may be provided on each unit which engage racks mounted on the ground.
