[Class 20(iii)] One jamb 81 of a window frame is positively movable towards and away from the other jamb 71 by rotation of a crank handle 91 operating camming elements, the normal position wherein the jambs guide the vertically sliding sashes 2, 3 being when the jambs are nearest together. When the movable jamb is moved away from the other the sashes can be reversed on a vertical axis for cleaning &c. or can be swung completely out of the frame. Each sash is counterbalanced against the other by a single cable passing over a pulley in the centre of the lintel and having; one end anchored in the centre of the top bar of one sash and the other in the centre of the top bar of the other sash. Weathersealing elements 30 which may be tubular in form are secured in the edges of the sashes and may carry anti-friction elements 34 to permit free sliding contact with the jambs. A flexible member 87 forming a weather seal regardless of the relative position of the jambs is provided between the stationary frame 89 and the movable jamb and has fluid-tight engagement therewith.
