Abstract
639,696. Clamps ; vices. CAUDLE, H. J. Feb. 11, 1948, No. 3985. [Class 61 (ii)] A clamping device comprises a block a bored to form cylinders d, pistons e, with rods g projecting from the block, being arranged in the cylinders. The latter communicate by ports h and are filled with liquid. When one piston rod contacts with a projecting part of a workpiece p, liquid is transferred to the other cylinders so that the other piston rods are projected to engage more remote parts of the workpiece. The pistons may be urged inwardly by springs. A block may be fitted removably to one or both jaws of a vice or may be incorporated in the jaw or jaws, or a block may be mounted slidably on a baseplate with a pressure screw for sliding it. The base-plate may be secured to the drilling bed or other part of a machine, or on a vertical wall so that it can be used as a hold down. Extension pieces may be provided for the piston rods or soft end caps of lead or fibre.
